Rangers on tour in the Rhine Gorge
The ranger service in the perimeter of the Rhine Gorge and in the UNESCO Tectonic Arena Sardona area typifies the link between nature protection and the use for touristic offers like almost no other known region in the canton of Grisons. Visitor management and information are two of the core tasks of the ranger service.
The ranger have a large scale of tasks and include
- Monitoring the breeding grounds of the sandpiper and little ringed plover
- Monitoring of flora and fauna
- Advice and notification in cases of inappropriate behavior
- Visitor information (accessibility of trails, restaurants, RhB schedule, distance and duration of routes, etc.)
- Raise visitors awareness for the natural values of flora/fauna and geology
- Check/assert compliance with fire and camping bans
- Check the network of trails
- Check the condition of signage (signposts, information boards)
- Check the condition of fire places
- Check function and use of infrastructure

Swiss Ranger
The Swiss Ranger Association is a parent organization for rangers, nature protection wardens and park rangers. It campaigns for the recognition of the occupational profile ranger. The association was founded in 2008 and is active throughout Switzerland.
Our mission
The core tasks of the ranger service are the management of visitors as well as sharing information and raising awareness for the values of nature. The monitoring of the nature and infrastructure within the perimeter «Natural landmark Ruinaulta/Rhine Gorge» is an additional main function of the ranger team.
